The pump and drainage system runs through the middle of the parking lot, tracing the path of the stream.

I like to call the flooding the ghost of the 'Apuakehau stream. My friend Stephen says it is more of an 'uhane - a Hawaiian word for a living spirit. He thinks ghost has too spooky a connotation and suggests that it is dead.

Well, 'Apuakehau is certainly not dead.

I know these pictures aren't pretty but Nandita and I think that these reminders of the stream's presense, after all that has been done to it, is the most powerful and beautiful thing.
